San Emilio, Ilocos Sur – “If the poor boy cannot go to education. Education must go to him.” – Swami Vivekananda

On the 26th of September 2020, MISTAH Foundation, spearheaded by CDR RICHARD T GUBATAN SR (GSC) PN (Res), hand-in-hand with enforcers from the Philippine National Police (PNP) of San Emilio, Ilocos Sur visited 3 different schools located in remote areas of the province. These schools were:

  1. Mangmangga Elementary School (Sitio Mangmangga, San Miliano, San Emilio, Ilocos Sur)
  2. Masiosioay Elementary School (Sitio Panpaniki, Brgy. Matibuey, San Emilio, Ilocos Sur)
  3. Lipay Elementary School (Sitio Lipay and Sitio Dadagupan of Brgy Tiagan, San Emilio Ilocos Sur)

San Emilio was a 4-hour journey away from Dagupan City, Pangasinan. To arrive to these remote areas, an hour drive to the mountains, including a requisite whiz to two river creeks was needed. There was also an interval of another 30-minute trip to reach each Elementary School.

Chieftains and Officials from the different sitios warmly welcomed CDR GUBATAN and his party. A total of 470 elementary school students received pair of slippers and assorted school supplies. It was again a very warm feeling to see each child’s big smiles after receiving such gifts from the foundation. This activity aims to reach out and help the students at the far flung areas in their “new normal” classes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

After the activity, CDR Gubatan together with the volunteers and policemen were invited for a lunch feast prepared by the Chieftains and barangay officials. They were served with different native delicacies like native fruits, rice cakes and cassava.
