“The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to see.” – N. Henderson

Caoayan, Sual, Pangasinan – The Coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc all around the globe but this was not seen as a hindrance in making a small positive impact in our environment. Self-initiative is a must during this time, we should not wait for the lifting of our respective city’s lockdown to act on a change for our Mother nature’s sustainability.

Aside from supporting the government’s platform of Enhanced National Greening Program (E-NGP), these thoughts also  encouraged CDR RICHARD T GUBATAN SR (GSC) PN (Res) of the MISTAH Foundation USA, together with officials from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR- PENRO/CENRO), Philippine National Police (PNP) and a small group of volunteers, to host and conduct another Tree Planting Project.

The 2-day event on the 17th – 18th of July, took place on the mountains of Caoayan, Sual, Pangasinan. To reach their destination a long 1-hour drive from Dagupan City to the foot of the mountains, and a 30-minute grueling hike uphill were needed. Strict implementation of health protocols, like social distancing, wearing of face masks and things alike were observed by the participants to prevent the spread of the virus.

They brought with them a total of 2,300 seedlings of Mahogany and Chinese Acacia. The same ones that CDR GUBATAN himself also donated for the Arbor Day Activity, which was held last June. The participants shared that they had a tough time hiking up the mountains because it was very steep. Nonetheless, they had a great and satisfactory time during their trip.

Exactly before the sun sets, the volunteers finished up planting the 2,300 seedlings. After their strenuous hike downhill, they stayed for another hearty boodle fight meal prepared by MISTAH Foundation USA as a show of gratitude for their untiring support to the Reforestation Venture.
