Haven for Children, Sitio Bagong Barrio, Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City – A regional center for abandoned street children in the Ilocos region was launched on the year of 2011, and was called The Haven for Children, it was built by the Congressional Spouses Foundation,. Inc. (CSFI) headed by Mrs. Gina de Venecia, wife of Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. It was formally turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office years after.

The Haven addresses the needs of children aged 3 to 16 years old, those of which has a
tragic history of hunger, drug dependency, abandonment by their parents and those who are hopeless and have endured nightmares of living in the streets and fending for themselves alone for many years. The center teaches them life lessons and different livelihood programs to prepare them to re-enter society.

On the 17th of October year 2020, the natal day of MISTAH’S benevolent and greathearted Director of Finance and Grants, Mrs. Veronica M. Gubatan, M.D. She has chosen The Haven to be her fortunate beneficiary in this year’s charitable donation.

Keen to the MISTAH Foundation’s passion of helping children in need of support and
guidance, Cdr Richard T Gubatan, (Co-Director and Founder of Mistah Foundation USA),
visited the shelter on behalf of her wife, Mrs. Veronica. On this trip, he noticed that majority of the residents of The Haven were males and that there was a lack of recreational apparatus for the children. This gave rise to the idea of donating sports equipment which would allow the children to get the benefits of exercise, enjoyment in playing together and socialization with their peers to help them build essential life skills.

On that date, Cdr Gubatan, with the help of volunteers from different cities and provinces in Pangasinan bequeathed the birthday grants from Mrs. Veronica to the children. The gifts inlude table tennis sets with nets, a basketball ring, fiber glass board, balls, tents and many more. But the presents did not stop there, our celebrant also donated laptops and a Smart TV for the children’s educational purposes. There was also a small lunch feast for the volunteers, children and the staff for The Haven. It was a heartwarming day indeed, the gratitude from the children were seen with their smiles and laughter. This served as the best gift that the Director received that day.
