BRGY. LONGOS, SAN FABIAN, PANGASINAN – On the 30th of May, 2021, MISTAH Foundation USA founder, CDR RICHARD T GUBATAN SR (PN) (Res) in partnership with the CHARISMATIC OUTREACH MINISTRIES FOUNDATION INCORPORATED celebrated its anniversary through establishing a makeshift community pantry.

Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, Kumuha batay sa pangagailangan” (Give according to your means, take according to your need.) It was mid-April of this year when this slogan shined its spotlight in the world of social media. This slogan was seen on a small stall laden with different foods ranging from rice grains, vegetables, dairies and many more. This very first food bank located in Maginhawa Street, Quezon City was called a “Community Pantry”. It aims to help the needy through bayanihan citizens from the poorest and richest families went hand-in-hand to share whatever they have to our fellow kababayans.

Amidst the stories of hunger, job losses, price hikes, pain and death in this pandemic, the Filipino food bank idea was seen as a glimmer of sunshine in our gloomy days. From one pantry that went viral a month ago, to thousands of Filipinos all over the LUZVIMIN islands decided to join the camaraderie. MISTAH’s joint project gave aid to the most afflicted families in this barangay in the municipality of San Fabian. Together with personnel from the Philippine National Police of Pangasinan, who helped in the security and distribution of foods, the project became a success.

The pantry was prepared by the volunteers and was equipped with vitamins, rice, canned goods, noodles, cookies, coffees, milk, vegetables and many more. The goods were evenly distributed to more than 300 families in the barangay who came and took what they only needed. Not only did this project prove the Filipino’s compassion and empathy towards each other, but it also showed how we can act as one with consideration to share the blessings we receive to the people in our community.

Indeed a small idea can make an insurmountable impact to the world.
