MAPITA FALLS, Aguilar, Pangasinan – On 11th of April 2019. A Clean Up Drive, spearheaded by the founder of Mistah Foundation USA, Col. Richard Tamayo Gubatan Sr. (in NAVY gray shirt, right photo), side-by-side with officials from DENR- CENRO Bonuan, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, police officers from town itself, soldiers, and civilians, numbering about 60 personnel, assembled for the drive, compelled by their care for the environment.
The sparkling and scenic Mapita Falls can only be reached after a 20 to 30minute drive uphill. Once on top of the mountain, a half-hour trek downhill through sharp rocks and dusty, or muddy terrain will point you to the waterfalls. Undeterred by all that, the said multi-sectoral group collected a total of 110 sacks of waste; mostly plastics, beer and wine bottles, soiled diapers, etc., all sadly caused by neglectful tourists. These sacks were carried uphill for 45 minutes, with pride and joy in their hearts for having helped the sanctuary.
After the taxing, but satisfactory trip, the brainchild of the Clean Up Drive, Col. Gubatan, hosted the traditional soldier’s boodle fight, for the people who helped the mission possible. This might be a tradition in the coming years to influence the local folks and tourists to keep the place unpolluted.
