Aguilar, Pangasinan – “DONATE BLOOD, SAVE LIVES.”

MISTAH Foundation USA director Cdr. Richard T. Gubatan PN(Res) in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan Chapter and the GNBII sponsored Bloodletting Project amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the 30th of April 2021, the team of 70 volunteers consisting of representatives from the foundation, RHU Aguilar Nurses, Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan staff and GNBII Guardians set out for the day to take part in the activity.

Conforming to the protocols to against COVID-19, screening for potential convalescent plasma donors was undertaken. But, health authorities have pointed out, however, not for respiratory diseases, including COVID-19. There is also no clear evidence yet by Science that the Corona virus is transmissible by blood transfusion.

The objective of blood screening is to detect markers of infection in order to prevent the release of infected blood and blood components for clinical use.

About 100 blood donors participated in the activity held at Dona Emma S. Ballesteros Social Hall, Municipal Building Annex.

The activity started with the Meals on Wheels prepared by the MISTAH Foundation. They served the volunteers and donors with “arrozcaldo and bread” for a simple breakfast. While, the Guardians helped in implementing the observance of health protocols during the said activity, they also volunteered to donate blood.

The activity ended at exactly 2:00PM, having the satisfaction of donating blood to save other people’s lives.

“We do not have to be a health practitioner to save lives, just donate blood!”

The RHU Nurses and Philippine Red Cross were the ones engaged in the main task at hand.

The team strictly observed health protocols to ensure the safety of everybody, notably through the thorough sanitation of the venue, observance of physical distancing, wearing of face masks, and other preventive measures.
